Your Nose Knows
What your scent cravings are trying tell you
Have you ever noticed
how some scents jut pull you through? Maybe it;s the earthy, grounding smell of vetiver…the soft, floral hug of rose…or the bright, zesty lift of bergamot. Those preferences aren’t random. They are little clues from your body and mind, showing you what you need and love.
So…Why do we crave certain scents?
There is a reason we are drawn to certain smells at certain times. Our sense of smell is directly linked to our limbic system - the part of the brain that deals with emotions and memories. So, what you are craving in scent usually reflects what’s going on inside you.
For me, when I am drawn to lavender at the end of a long day, it’s often my body’s way of asking for comfort and a bit of stress relief. If I am craving a cup of chamomile tea, I know my mind and body are crying out for rest and a bit of gentle care - a chance to slow down. And when I need motivation, focus and energy, I find myself reaching for citrus grapefruit and lime.
A few common scent cravings - and what they mean:

Floral & soft notes like lavender or geranium - you could be craving comfort and emotional calm. Walled Garden, a blend of geranium, lavender, cedarwood, lemon & petigrain will transform your space into a serene sanctuary.
Woody & grounding fragrances like cedarwood or frankincense - your body might be asking for stability and deep rest. Yoga Retreat, a warm, soothing blend of frankincense, cedarwood and lavender is a wonderful grounding and restorative blend.
Bright & citrusy aromas like grapefruit or orange - you might be needing a lift, energy and a little spark of joy. Happiness, a joyful blend of grapefruit, orange, geranium & lavender will uplift and bring feelings of positivity.
Fun Tact: Your scent cravings may shift with the seasons too
There is even research to back this up - a study in Germany found that people rated different scents as more pleasant depending on the season. For example florals such as rose, and fresh citrus such as lemon are preferred in Summer, while cosy aromas such as cinnamon, clove and orange are more loved in Winter. It makes sense really - our brains link smells to memories, and the season can often brian certain scents back to life for us.
